2-dimethylaminoethanol (Deanol) in Huntington's chorea.

چکیده
A double-blind crossover trial with 2-dimethylaminoethanol (Deanol), a possible precursor of brain acetylcholine, was carried out in nine patients with Huntington's chorea. It was found to be ineffective in inducing any alteration in hyperkinesia.

Huntington's chorea.
The pharmacological treatment of Huntington's chorea has been based on the use of neuroleptic drugs, on the hypothesis that there is a functional dopaminergic hyperactivity in this illness (Agid, 1975). More recently, after the observation of reduced cholinergic and GABAminergic activity at the striatal level in brains of choreic subjects (McGeer et al., 1973; Stahl and Swanson, 1974; Bird and ...
متن کاملIsolation of radioformaldehyde in the metabolism of dimethylaminoethanol-C14H3.
Several years ago we reported that formaldehyde could be isolated when dimethylaminoethanol, dimethylglycine, sarcosine, or methanol was incubated with a whole liver homogenate (1). Dimethylaminoethanol differed from the other substrates in that it required both the supernatant and sediment fractions of the homogenate to effect this biochemical oxidation. We have now prepared methyl-labeled dim...
متن کاملIs 2-dimethylaminoethanol (deanol) indeed a precursor of brain acetylcholine? A gas chromatographic evaluation.
Acute administration of deanol-p-acetamidobenzoate (Deaner; deanol) has been reported to elevate brain choline (CH) and acetylcholine (ACh) levels. We have developed a specific and sensitive gas chromatographic assay to measure deanol levels in tissue and have applied this assay to our studies of the effect of acute deanol administration on deanol, ACh and Ch levels in rodent brains. Details of...
متن کاملStudies on the origin of choline in the brain of the rat.
1. Labelled precursors of choline, namely ethanolamine, dimethylaminoethanol and methionine and also labelled choline itself were injected intraperitoneally into the adult female rat and the incorporation into lipids and water-soluble fractions was traced in liver, blood and brain. 2. No significant free choline was detected and no labelling of the phosphorylcholine of blood. There was, however...
متن کاملA clinico-genetic study of psychiatric disorder in Huntington's chorea.
The introduction in 1985 of a genetic linkage test programme to identify asymptomatic heterozygotes among subjects at 50% initial risk for Huntington's chorea required a review of all cases of Huntington's chorea and their families referred to the Department of Medical Genetics of the Oxford Regional Health Area (population 2.5 million). From a representative sample of these subjects, psychiatr...
